2000 Calorie Meal Plan

For active adults, men, and anyone who needs a higher intake while still eating in a modest deficit for weight loss.

2000 Calorie Meal Plan

A 2000 calorie meal plan still counts as a weight-loss plan if you burn more than you eat. It is the right starting point for many men, taller people and anyone who is on their feet all day or training regularly. Breakfasts sit near 500 calories, lunches near 700, dinners near 600 and two snacks add about 200.

This week keeps the food familiar and satisfying — eggs, oats, chicken, salmon, beef, beans, rice, plenty of vegetables and fruit — with portions big enough to power a full day. Use it as written or as a framework you adjust after two to three weeks based on the scale.

Portion guide

Portions are sized for roughly 2,000 calories per day. To move down to 1,800, trim 1/2 cup (90 g) of grains from lunch and dinner and drop one snack. To move up to 2,200, add 1 oz (28 g) protein and 1/2 cup (90 g) grains at two meals.

7-day meal plan

Breakfast is about 25% of daily calories, lunch about 35%, dinner about 30% and two snacks make up the rest. Nutrition values are approximate.

Frequently asked questions

Can a 2,000 calorie plan help me lose weight?

Yes, for people whose maintenance needs are higher than 2,000 calories — commonly men, taller adults and very active people. The deficit comes from the gap between intake and output, so this plan works best paired with regular daily movement.

How much protein does this plan provide?

Most days land between 130 and 170 g of protein by including eggs, Greek yogurt, chicken, fish, beef, turkey, beans and cottage cheese across the day. That is plenty to support muscle retention while losing fat.

What if I am not losing weight after a month?

First check portions and drinks — liquid calories and cooking oils are the usual culprits. If intake is truly on plan and the scale is flat for three to four weeks, reduce daily calories by about 150 to 200, or increase activity.
